Belhaven, North Carolina

We had just a tad bit of trouble lifting the anchor this morning but with a little quick maneuvering the captain was able to get it loose and we were off to Belhaven.

We decided to head into a marina so we could make an easy rendezvous with our friends, Barry and Robin.  Seems there were a few tweaks we needed to make on our electronics and of course with the opportunity to have them coming from home, we were able to get a few more items from home we thought we might like.

Robin and I headed into “town” and picked up sandwiches from Vinnys Pizza and Subs while the boys got to work on their short list of chores.  In the same strip mall as the Pizza joint is the Food Lion so I took the opportunity to stock up on a few fresh food items.  So our marina, River Forest Manor and Marina, had offered golf carts to us to utilize while in town.  Seems that is not the only “other” mode of transportation here…….I mean seriously……this guy way driving his lawn tractor down the road.

The marina is quite nice with great facilities.  The Manor House is absolutely gorgeous and we get the use of the washers and dyers for free while at the marina.  That is quite a nice feature.  We don’t have much laundry to do at this point as I have kept up with most of it, but we will take towels and wash them at least.  The fuel, pump out and water are all done on the dock at your slip which is also a nice benefit.  Lastly the staff is super helpful and friendly which always makes the stay pleasant.

With the fixes all made and lunches all done, we took a little time to train me on the new chart plotter and a few other instruments.  Barry was able to teach me how to get through the different menus, set waypoints, check AIS information and set targets to keep an eye on when doing my night watches.  I love our new touch screen Axiom Pro.

After all the training and transferring of “stuff”, it is time for Barry and Robin to hit the road to Morehead where they are picking up some anchor chain for their boat.  It is always difficult to say goodbyes, but we will see them this winter we hope in the Bahamas.  The boys and I took a little jog to stretch our legs before calling it a day and retiring back to Paradigm Shift for the night.
